On September 12, 2025, a roundtable discussion was held at the College of Staten Island, a collaborative effort between our organization and the Richmond County Black Minority Chamber of Commerce. The event hosted 19 attendees, all of whom were local business owners. The discussion focused on addressing common challenges, building a sense of community, and connecting business owners with valuable resources.
The event, which was born out of a need for direct, action-oriented support for Staten Island businesses, featured an open dialogue led by Darren R. Jones. Expert speakers from the NY Small Business Development Council (NYSBDC) and Western Governors University (WGU) provided actionable advice. The event's outcomes were successful: WGU provided an in-kind donation for eight new membership subscriptions, and the NYSBDC offered free consultations to all attendees. Attendees were highly engaged, with 19 of the 22 registrants attending and staying for an additional 40 minutes after the official end time. The event was executed with a $0 budget, highlighting its cost-effectiveness. The positive feedback and a spontaneous request for a follow-up event underscored its value and success.
