Government Shutdown Forum: When America Shuts Down, We Build Communities
Project type
Policy & Forum
Date
October 9, 2025
Location
New York University
Driven by concerns over the potential 2025 Government Shutdown, this project sought to educate the community and inspire action. 90% of attendees ranked this event as 'highly education,' with all attendees mentioning they left feeling more informed.
We hosted a series of expert-led sessions:
* NYU professors provided foundational knowledge on what a government shutdown entails.
* The National Policy Alliance analyzed its specific impact on local businesses and residents.
* A former Supreme Court Judge offered historical perspective on why this particular shutdown is so unprecedented.
With over 13 people in attendance (virtually and in-person), we provided a safe space to generate ideas and several community-based projects that can help individuals feel isolated, and create a support system, ultimately being successfully in generating several community action initiatives (more details coming soon).
